English Speech: Globalization is Imperialism Repackaged

Thanks God,who has
given us some mercy and blessing until we can present to this happiness place.
Peace and salutation to
our big prophet Muhammad SAW who has guiden us from the darkness to the
lightness.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Do you
know Expecto Patronoum,Finite Incantem,or Aresto Momentum or Avada Kedavra? Ah
ya,exactly,those all are the spells in Harry Potter. A very popular movie of
wizard which is adopted from a famous and an amazing novel of magic during the
21st century, which has the same title as that movie, Harry Potter.
So,what do you think I gonna tell you here? Will we talk about that movie, or
maybe, how handsome Harry Potter, or how incredible that magic? No, of course
no, my brothers and sisters, it’s a long story, we don’t have much time to
adore that movie, anyway. But, do you think that the magic is really exists in
this era? I will answer, absolutely YES.
Perhaps you’ll wonder about, how? How could I say that? How could I say
that the magic is really exists? Am I obsessed of? Am I crazy? Okay, let me
clear this misunderstanding.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
There’s a term that began to be very popular nowadays. It’s called Globalization.
And at the same time, Imperialism is created. Are they the same, guys? What’s
the correlation between Harry Potter’s spells and both of the terms? I guess,
all of us in this room wonder about it. Okay, without a long explanation, I’ll
start to tell you about the existence of this magic. Just listen to me
carefully.
If you walk around and see the symbol which is ‘yellow carved M’, you’ll
recognize it soon as McDonald. If you see a jeans, you’ll remember Levi’s. And
if you see a picture of an old man with a glasses and wearing an apron and
usually in red color, you’ll say spontaneously, ‘hey, there’s KFC over there!’.
That’s it! That’s what I mean, magic, in this context, everybody. And those are
some instances of globalization effects and culture Imperialism.
So, actually, what is globalization, and what is imperialism repackage?
Some
people say that “Globalization is the way of McDonald’s and KFC has captured
the hearts, the minds, and from what can
be seen through the window, the growing bellies of the folks here.” Some others say that “Globalization
is when you’re eating the French food, Drink the Italian drinking, and throwing
away the rest of in the closet of Standard American.” Another definition says
that “Globalization is when there will be no borders, no boundaries, no flags
and no countries and the only passport will be the heart” So, if I may making a conclusion, I’ll say
that Globalization is process of unity in the world, so there is no
limitation or boundaries again, and also spread the changes in many aspects of
life.
And then,
by definition,
imperialism is a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy
or military force, or world through a mix of economic, sociocultural,
technological and political influences. To say that globalization is
imperialism repackaged is true to a certain extent in that many developing
countries are adopting methods of developing their economies that have been
tried and tested by the Western economic powerhouses.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
We can’t deny that globalization and imperialism effect is the feature of
our life style. And one of the effective
media which bring us to this type of life is internet. Because of why? Because
of everyone can break the boundaries, because everyone can see the world only
by sitting on a chair and staring on the screen of laptop, they’re browsing,
they’re using internet. That’s why I
think internet is the most effective way to grow the imperialism in every
corner of the world. If you see in Harry Potter movie, we need a wand to spell
out the magic. And in the different context, we can find that internet is the
tool to spell out the magic to all the society in this world. We can find a lot
of changes in many aspects of life, whether it’s in culture, economic, and political.
First, we can see the change of life style in the society. They become so
consumptive. They always defend on the instant food, and always want to have
everything which is published in the advertisements. And have a big desire to
get the sophisticated technology and branded clothes. That’s called culture
imperialism.
Second, the development of economy will give effect on human economy
system. globalization or imperialism does not bring
about wealth to everybody. This is because the increase in wealth is usually
concentrated in the hands of the rich. Hence, the rich is getting richer such
that there is a widening of income gap. So the country which has power and big
capital will be able to survive and master all the countries which is below of them.
Third,
globalization and imperialism, such a magic will give effect on the political
system of a certain country. We can see that in our own country, Indonesia. Do
you know what’s the most important thing that must be maintained of this
country? The answer must be ‘National Interest’. To be mentioned the delivery
of Indonesian Workers (TKI) and Women Workers (TKW) to the abroad. These
delivery is one of the political way to decrease the number of unemployment and
increase the foreign exchange for Indonesia. That’s why, we must corporate with
the neighbor country or with the country where the workers were sent for
establishing the national interest. We can say that national interest is the
key for maintaining the political system of Indonesia, especially in the foreign
policy.
Why
do I say that these third point is one of the way of globalization? Because
from what can be seen, sending Indonesian Workers (TKI) or Woman Workers (TKW)
to the abroad, can be defined as “slave activity” of the advance country to the
developed country. It’s not only a corporation between both of those countries,
but one of the system to show that advanced countries have an authority or have
a power to do the “slave activity” to the developed countries. So, I’ll say
it’s more than “Keeping Corporation For Each Other” and it’s more than “Keeping
National Interest” . But that is an invisible imperialism in these
globalization era.
And
then, I’ll say and absolutely agree with the statement that Globalization is
the same as Imperialism. Because the process of unity of the world that we
called globalization has the same way and process to spread the effects of
changes from the advanced country such as USA, to the developing country. With
another words, we can say that globalization is the imperialism repackaged.
Ladies
and Gentlemen,
I
have a quotes, You’ll never get what you want if you’ll always let people step
all over you. That’s what plankton said in Spongebob Squarepant. Means that we
have to move and don’t let another country to have power on us whether it’s in
economy, politic or culture way. We have characters, we have culture, and we
have our own unique potential that’s better from another country. Let’s be our
self.
I
